Story

Depop was founded by graphic designer, artist, and co-founder of PIG magazine and RETROSUPERFUTURE sunglasses, Simon Beckerman. Originally a social network where PIG’s readers could buy items featured in the magazine, Depop evolved into a buying and selling platform when Simon had a coffee table full of things he’d been meaning to sell, but wished there was an easy way to do it. After realizing that Depop needed a selling function, Simon re-envisioned the app as a global marketplace — a mobile space where you can see what your friends and the people you’re inspired by are liking, buying, and selling. In turn, your friends and creative influencers all over the world can see the things you like, buy, and sell, and are inspired by you.

This ecosystem has supported Depop becoming a global conduit of connection, not only in m-commerce, but culture, design, and creative communities around the world.


Summary of the Role:

A Community Manager is responsible for growing Depop in various micro-communities in their immediate area. An ambassador is well intertwined within their city. They are a trusted resource within their core community and often the first of their group to advise on new trends, store openings, events or developments in fashion, music and culture. They have the ability to see natural collaboration opportunities with an aligned brand/market fit and are hungry to take from concept to execution of the project. The key responsibility of the Community Manager is to engage Depop with a new audience to implement growth (downloads), and brand awareness throughout their community.

Through relationships built and maintained, the Community Manager will drive business initiatives, provide daily and weekly verbal and written communication regarding various aspects of community/relationship progress including trends and opportunities, support regional strategies and plan for the future while maximizing the current business. The Community Manager acts as liaison with US Marketing Team. This is a 3 month freelance role but has the option to become a full time position.


Each day is different, we’re a startup after all, but ultimately you’ll be a key asset in:

  • Growing the Depop community
  • A helping hand and mentor to new depop users to set them up for success and the liaison between new user and Account Manager.
  • Assisting with community management
  • Assisting with content creation for Depop Shops
  • Developing partnerships
  • Build positive relationships throughout your local stores, event spaces, entrepreneurs who are looking for the next big social networking initiative to join.

Requirements

  • A strong understanding of the brand and how the app works, an avid user a plus
  • A natural connector and confident communicator
  • Ability to see an opportunity and act on it
  • Experience with creating original, creative content
  • Relevant marketing experience
  • A love for fashion, design and all things creative
  • Ability to work as part of a growing entrepreneurial team without supervision and take lead of a project in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Capable of making us laugh
