Peak trends
It’s coat season, and we’re delighted!

The main thrill of fall is transitioning into outerwear. The right coat or jacket will take centerstage of every outfit and every occasion. Get this seasonal essential right and the rest of your closet will follow. For a classic outdoorsy vibe, search for well-loved wax jackets by heritage brands like Barbour and Ralph Lauren. Or for moving through those city streets, a leather bomber or a tailored funnel-neck coat by Carhartt or Stone Island will fit the bill. If you’re heading to the gym or a yoga session, it’s got to be a track top by in-demand brands such as Lululemon and Free People. And for technical fits and puffer jackets, look no further than Arc’teryx and The North Face.

All about denim

Denim is always everyone’s best friend but it really comes into its own as we enter the season defined by lots of layers. Not only is denim ultimately versatile, it also looks better with age, which is why vintage denim is always in-demand on Depop. Let’s face it, when are you ever not in need of a decent pair of jeans?
This season your tried-and-trues can come in many guises. Baggy, slouchy jeans remain the dominant style. Look for curved seams and raw edges for that lived-in feeling. There’s also a strong case for low-rise boot cut and more embellished styles that hit those retro notes just right. Search for stalwart brands such as Levi’s, Wrangler, Diesel, Evisu and True Religion, as well as Hollister and BDG. And if you want to go for the full Canadian tuxedo, pair jeans with an upcycled denim jacket with a nipped-in waist, and throw on a denim shoulder bag, too.

Supreme is back

That’s right, Supreme is back. Maybe not queue-around-the-block-for-four-hours back, but its infamous box logo is becoming ubiquitous once more. Founded in downtown New York in 1994, the cult skate brand went on to define the ‘00s era of the streetwear drop at its stores around the world. The hype eventually moved on but a new generation are now reconnecting with Supreme. As ever, it's its collaborations that are most sought after, thanks to designs with Nike, Timberland and MM6 Maison Margiela sitting alongside those with Spider-Man, Star Wars and Spitfire. Head to Depop to rediscover the brand’s unmistakable hoodies, sweatshirts and more.

While the best finds were mined from ‘90s-era Oshkosh B'gosh, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Pokemon, Disney, and Sanrio. Medieval grails

If the idea of wearing Medieval-inspired fashion puts you in a cosplay cold sweat, think again. Because the Middle Ages have been over the runways. At Ralph Lauren AW26, Gigi Hadid appeared drenched in glittering chainmail. And for Cruise 26, Louis Vuitton crossed armed knights with modern-day jesters. Meanwhile Chappell Roan, Phoebe Bridgers and Troye Sivan have all dabbled in outfits fit for King Arthur’s court. Offering both a fantastical escape and a sense of protection, make the trend work in real life by mixing romantic drummer jackets and puff-sleeved blouses with more tough-edged silver jewelry and lace-up boots. Theatrical yes, but leave the conical hats at home.

Whimsigoth

Blame Practical Magic 2 if you want, but whimsigoth has never felt so good. A close cousin of Medieval-core, this movement is equally enchanting and picks up where Ethereal Girl Summer left off. Drawing on Victorian, ‘70s and ‘90s references, the look revolves around soft, floaty shapes in jewel-toned velvets and inky jacquards. And more is more when it comes to the details – stack up mood rings, beaded chains and bangles. True aficionados will seek out vintage items by original whimsigoth brands Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui, Ghost and Vivienne Tam. You can also reference Alexander McQueen, Gabriela Hearst and Rodarte for some modern gothic inspirations before finding more preloved mystical pieces.

Seeing red (and violet)

Color-clashing is your shorthand to style right now but the one to watch is fiery red paired with rich violet. These neighbors on the color wheel feel bold and unexpected when worn together and make a tempting case for not letting yourself drift into neutrals for fall. Prada, Victoria Beckham and Valentino have all played around with this power duo, as have celebrities like Dua Lipa and Lupita Nyong’o. But you don’t need a red carpet or runway to make the match. Hot crimson and punchy purple go well together on ladylike knits and midi skirts, as well athletic-inspired raincoats and sneakers. Enjoy!

Merchandiser outfit pick of the month

Be pretty in pink in this cute mix-and-match look. The blush pink adidas track top with a hint of chinoiserie detailing is a playful take on sportswear. Styled with a plaid skirt, it moves into preppy territory. And topped off with all black, tomboy accessories – a flat cap, wraparound shades, baguette bag and tassel loafers – it’s an outfit that’s as fun for a first date as it is for an afternoon of striding around campus.
