Geiger boiled wool jackets were popular in the US during the 1970s through the 1990s. They were frequently sold in high-end specialty shops and through luxury retailers. The jackets were associated with a classic, preppy or country aesthetic, which was popular in the 1980s. This particular vintage jacket was "customized" at some point with mismatched Tyrolean style buttons, as well as additional non-working buttons in between the buttonholes, adding to the vintage charm.
