Aw1999, Dirk Van Saene Trompe L’oeil Denim Top Size it40 Designed by Dirk Van Saene, one of the lesser known members of the Antwerp 6, for his Aw1999, where explored the flattening of tailoring. Presented on mannequins, the collection reduced familiar elements such as collars, pockets, and ties into 2D details seamlessly integrated into the cut of the garments themselves. Cut from indigo denim with orange contrast stitching, this garment presents the façade of a classic denim jacket. A faux collar is created with its shape integrated into the cut of the garment and contrast stitched for detail. Chest pockets and panel lines exist only as stitching, creating a trompe l’oeil effect while geometric seams converge at the chest as a focal point. The front remains completely closed to preserve the illusion, with entry concealed through a vertical invisible zip opening at the back.
