Based on the novel by Donald E. Westlake, WHAT'S THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN? is a black comedy in the tradition of GET SHORTY and THE GRIFTERS. The film opens at an art auction in Boston, where suave robber Kevin Caffrey (Martin Lawrence) meets the beautiful, distraught Amber (Carmen Ejogo). Romantic sparks become genuine love in just one night. To prove this, Amber gives Kevin her deceased father's good-luck ring. A few days later, Kevin and his partner, Berger (John Leguizamo), are robbing the beach house of Max Fairbanks (Danny DeVito), an incredibly selfish millionaire.
